GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Gators safety Rashad Torrence II has signed with the Las Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent.

Torrence was a full-time starter the past two seasons and started three games as a true freshman, finishing his UF career with 196 tackles and three interceptions in 34 appearances (28 starts).

Florida coach Billy Napier and several players identified Torrence as one of the leaders on defense.

“Ventrell obviously is the alpha,” Napier said. “I see Rashad Torrence. He obviously is a veteran player. There’s a lot of young players I see taking ownership.”

UF cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. added, “Shad (Rashad Torrence) was our vocal guy in the DB room.”

Torrence recorded more than 80 tackles in each of the past two years, making a team-high 87 tackles last fall and 84 tackles in 2021. All three of his picks came during his sophomore season.

Torrence had five career games with double-digit tackles, including a career-high 15 tackles vs. Vanderbilt in 2021 and 13 tackles (11 solo) against Tennessee last season.

Torrence started in the Gators secondary with fellow Georgia native Trey Dean III. They also played together on the same 7v7 team in high school.

“Me and Trey, we’ve been in the back end together for a little minute and I feel like the last game just being able to enjoy that win with him and knowing that we just sent him as well as the other seniors out the right way,” Torrence said after the Senior Day victory over South Carolina. “I was very, very, very grateful to the underclassmen and the guys that do have another chance to come back.”

Torrence is the third UDFA signee for the Gators, who had six draftees in quarterback Anthony Richardson (first round, 4th overall, Indianapolis Colts), defensive tackle Gervon Dexter (second round, 53rd overall, Chicago Bears), offensive guard O’Cyrus Torrence (second round, 59th overall, Buffalo Bills), linebacker Ventrell Miller (fourth round, 121st overall, Jacksonville Jaguars) and receiver Justin Shorter (fifth round, 150th overall, Buffalo Bills) and linebacker Amari Burney (sixth round, 203rd overall, Las Vegas Raiders).

Offensive lineman Richard Gouraige signed an UDFA deal with the Buffalo Bills, safety Trey Dean III inked a contract with the New York Jets and EDGE Brenton Cox Jr. landed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent.
