Report: Anthony Richardson to miss at least a month with AC joint sprain

Anthony Richardson’s promising rookie season has hit a bump in the road.
The former Florida Gators standout, now the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, won’t play for awhile because of an injury. Per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Richardson has an AC joint sprain.
NFL.com reported, “Richardson suffered a right shoulder injury in the second quarter against the Tennessee Titans (Sunday). The rookie QB did not return to the field, and it was initially reported that it was, in fact, an AC joint sprain. Other than that, X-rays came back negative, Rapoport reported Sunday”.
“Sources tell me that the initial diagnosis was a Grade 3 AC Joint sprain. If the tests confirm what the initial diagnosis was, you’re looking at a month or longer for Anthony Richardson,” Rapoport said on Good Morning Football. “It brings Injured Reserve into play for the standout rookie for the Colts. And it makes Gardner Minshew gonna be the starter moving forward. I expect him to start this week against the Jaguars at the very least.”
Colts coach Shane Steichen confirmed this report Monday. He said Richardson would not play in the team’s next game, which is against the Jaguars.
“He will miss some time, but we don’t know how long yet,” Steichen said.
Per NLF.om, Steichen also “did not rule out a trip to injured reserve for Richardson, which would knock the rookie out for at least four games.”

The Colts led Tennessee 10-6 when Richardson was injured. He was 9-of-12 passing for 98 yards in the game.
Anthony Richardson had a prior health issue earlier this season
As Nikki Chavanelle of On3 noted, this isn’t Richardson’s first health-related issue this season.
“Richardson has missed time already this year in concussion protocol. He was sidelined for Week 3’s overtime victory against the Baltimore Ravens. He returned the following week to lead the Colts to another overtime matchup, this time in a losing effort against the Rams.
Indianapolis selected Richardson with the No. 4 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. He’s completed 56.9% of his passes for 479 yards, while tossing in three touchdowns and one interception. As a runner, he has 23 carries for 131 rushing yards and four touchdowns.”
Richardson was a full-time starter for only one season at Florida but showed enough promise to become a first-round draft pick earlier this year.
