Former Giants DL coach Sean Spencer hired as Gators Co-DC
Florida’s Billy Napier has hired a second coach from the 2021 New Yorks Giants staff, Sean Spencer.
Spencer was announced Thursday as the Gators’ co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach. Last week, he was reportedly heading to Duke for the same positions.
Spencer, 51, was the defensive line coach for the New Yorks Giants the last two seasons, working with UF offensive coordinator and former Giants offensive line coach Rob Sale this past year.
Prior to the NFL, Spencer served as the defensive line coach at Penn State (2014-19), Vanderbilt (2011–2013) and Bowling Green (2009–2010), among other schools.
“Coach Chaos” is Spencer’s nickname and he’s considered “one better recruiters and motivators” in the college game, according to NFL Network’s Kim Jones.
Spencer joins Napier’s Army
Spencer is the 43rd staff hire by Napier and 10th on-field assistant, completing his inaugural coaching staff.
