New York Giants offensive line coach Rob Sale is joining Billy Napier’s inaugural Florida Gators staff. Sale will serve as UF’s offensive coordinator and coach the offensive line with assistant Darnell Stapleton.

Sale spent one season with the Giants, but his history with Napier goes back years. The two worked together on Alabama’s staff as well as at Arizona State and Louisiana. Sale, a 14-year collegiate coaching veteran, served as the Ragin Cajuns offensive coordinator from 2018-20.

Sale joins Gators on-field staff

Napier’s on-field coaching staff is almost complete. The Gators have hired eight of their 10 offensive assistants.

Though Sale will hold the offensive coordinator title, Napier plans on calling offensive plays for the Gators.

Patrick Toney (co-defensive coordinator/safeties), Corey Raymond (cornerbacks) and Mike Peterson (outside linebackers) are the defensive coaches who have been hired.

Sale and Stapleton (offensive line), Jabbar Juluke (running backs), Keary Colbert (receivers) and William Peagler (tight ends) round out the rest of the staff.

The Gators have two additional posts to fill out on the coaching staff, and Napier is expected to hire a defensive line coach and an inside linebacker coach.

Los Angeles Rams D-line coach Eric Henderson is considered Napier’s top target, but his team is in the NFL Playoffs. Napier is also reportedly targeting Karl Scott of the Minnesota Vikings.

Sale added to Napier’s Army

The Gators have made 38 hires since Dec. 6, with Sale being the latest addition to the army.

A pair of analysts who will assist the on-field coaches are Ryan O’Hara (quarterbacks – Napier) and Jamar Chaney (linebackers – Peterson). Additionally, Napier has tapped Mark Hocke to run the strength and conditioning program. Hocke will be joined by Joe Danos, Karmichael Dunbar, Tiger Jones, Edward Thompson and Alex Watkins.

“We’re going to hire an army of people here. We’re going to create an infrastructure not only in the personnel department but also from on-campus recruiting, creative media, name, image, and likeness. We’ve got a great vision for the organization that we’re going to create here,” Napier said during his introductory press conference.
