With one of Florida’s best players sidelined Saturday, Richie Leonard IV made his first start of the season on Saturday against LSU.
The Gators were without O’Cyrus Torrence, who was questionable for the game with a right knee injury. That opened the door for Leonard to get the nod at right guard.
“Richie Leonard playing for the most part did a good job in the game. They have some good players on the edges,” UF coach Billy Napier said. “I think we’ll be pleased with that when we go back and look at the tape.”
The coaching staff was certainly pleased with Leonard’s performance, naming him one of three players on the week on the offensive side of the ball.
The appeared in the first five games this season and played both guard and center against Eastern Washington. Leonard made eight appearances last year, including his first career start against Missouri.

“I didn’t expect anything less from Richie,” Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson said of Leonard’s performance Saturday. “He’s always going to play hard, and he’s always ready for the moment when he does get a chance to get out there. I didn’t expect anything less from him.”
