Just over a week after returning to practice with the Gators, starting wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and starting cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. are good to go for the season opener Saturday against No. 7 Utah.
Pearsall and Marshall were not included on the injury report released by Florida coach Billy Napier. He provided an update on their availability following practice Wednesday night.
“They’re good, they’re good. They’ve been able to participate in the last two days, moving around well,” Napier said. “You know, obviously (they) had pretty significant time out of it, but we’ve incrementally been working those guys back into practice. So, they’re both excited about being healthy and being there, being ready to contribute to the team.”
Pearsall was out for more than a week with a left foot injury before returning to practice last Tuesday along with Marshall, who was also sidelined for over a week with a hamstring injury. Both players missed the two scrimmages in fall training camp, although starting quarterback Anthony Richardson said he’s been putting in extra work with the Arizona State transfer.
Richardson also credited the receiving corps for stepping up with Pearsall out.
“Having Ricky miss a few practices, I feel like it was a great opportunity for other guys to step in and show coach Nape what they could do. It hurt not having him during the practices because it kind of threw off our chemistry just a little bit. But the other day in practice, we stayed after practice to work on some things that we missed over the few weeks,” Richardson said of Pearsall. “Having him, he talks to the receivers, talks to me about what to expect from their corners. He’s an older guy, too, so just having him just communicate with us and show us what he knows, it helped us.”

Defensive back Tre’Vez Johnson added on Pearsall, “He’s a great addition to the offense, especially the receiver room. He’s fast, twitchy so I think that’ll be a great spark to the offense.”
Florida’s injury report for Utah ruled four players out: quarterback Jack Miller III (upper body), tight end Arlis Boardingham (upper body), offensive lineman David Conner (upper body) and cornerback Jaydon Hill (lower body). Napier said Miller will miss at least two games after undergoing surgery on his right thumb.
