Quotable

“Florida is just a great school overall, football and academic wise. The bond I have with the coaches, especially (assistant secondary) coach CJ (Wilford), (inside linebackers) coach (Jay) Bateman, and (defensive coordinator) coach (Austin) Armstrong. They treat me very special every time I visit up there.”

Scouting Report on Josiah Davis

Davis is Mr. Do-It-All for his high school but will be playing safety for the Gators.

When from meeting him a few times, Davis has decent size for the position and should fill out even more in Gainesville. He has the chance to be an imposing figure in the back end of the defense.

However, much of Davis’ film is on the offensive side at quarterback. He flashes traits that should translate to defense though, including his acceleration in the open field. That allows him to reach the ball carrier in a hurry once diagnosing the play. As an explosive quarterback, Davis’ change of direction stands out too.

Grasping my attention most though is the 3-star prospect’s tackling ability.

Davis provides a thud at the point of attack and plays with decent leverage. He has a stronger lower body to get underneath opponents and does a good job of driving through them as well.

There is plenty of projecting when evaluating Davis’ fit in the secondary; however, it does not take long to notice his physicality and tackling ability. When you combine that with his size and athletic traits, you can see why defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong is intrigued by the potential finished product.
