Setting up the Gators and Dawgs

Georgia is the reigning National Champions, 7-0, and the current No. 1 team in the country. The Gators are 4-3 after a loss last weekend to the LSU Tigers.

This will be the first meeting between Billy Napier and Kirby Smart as head coaches. The two, however, are familiar with each other. Napier and Smart were both on Nick Saban’s Alabama staff together from 2013-15. Smart left in after the 2015 season to take over Georgia, while Napier would leave the following season to become the offensive coordinator at Arizona State before becoming the head coach at Louisiana.

Florida spent its bye week looking in the mirror.

“We always do quality control in-house to all the areas that we think contribute to winning. What is the root cause of some of the areas where maybe we’re not as efficient? I think sometimes we tend to ignore things that we maybe are doing well, but maybe there’s some things that we can learn from,” Napier said Wednesday. “I think that it’s been healthy for us in certainly all parts of our team. We’ve evaluated and quality controlled, and then, you know, we develop plans for improvement for all the areas where we feel like we need to make progress. It’s been beneficial in the past and, certainly, they could be beneficial for this team.”

The Gators’ road to Atlanta isn’t dead but would be with a loss to Georgia on October 29. Florida can, however, play the role of spoiler to Georgia’s attempt at repeating as National Champions.
