Scouting Report on Gavin Hill

The Gators are receiving a versatile defensive lineman who does a good job of being disruptive behind the line of scrimmage.

When engaged with his opponent, Hill shows good hand usage and keeps his head up in order to track the ball. He also does a good job of disengaging and closing on the ball carrier. He is relentless in his pursuit and always looking to fill up the stat sheet. Hill’s motor really stands out.

As for his positional fit, the Gators have some options here. Hill’s versatility was one of the primary reasons why they offered to begin with. He seems to be a natural fit at strong-side defensive end but could shift to the interior as well, especially as he gets stronger and packs on weight.

In terms of improvement, I would like to see Hill improve his get-off. There are times when he does a good job of timing the snap, but he needs to be more consistent in that department. He can also become more fluid in his movements.

There is no doubt Hill is a decent athlete who shows the ability to track down the ball carrier, but getting lighter on his feet and become more explosive could certainly enhance his game.

Overall, Hill is a determined kid who does a great job of finding a lane into the backfield. His motor is always running on high, so you will never question his passion. He also impresses with the ability to fight through contact and play under control, resulting in him staying in range of the ball carrier.
