Steve Spurrier Jr. joins the Florida Gators coaching staff

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Steve Spurrier Jr., a veteran college football assistant and son of Florida Gators legend Steve Spurrier, has joined the UF staff as an analyst, per multiple sources.
Spurrier has filled the opening to replace Dan Enos, who was Florida’s Special Assistant to the Head Coach last season. Enos left recently to become QB coach at Wake Forest.
Spurrier has a connection to Billy Napier’s offensive staff. He was an assistant coach at Arizona in 2004 when Florida quarterback coach Ryan O’Hara was a QB for the Wildcats.
Spurrier is now working with O’Hara in his position room, among other job responsibilities.
Spurrier just completed his second season as offensive coordinator and first as associate head coach at Tulsa. Kevin Wilson was the program’s head coach, but he was fired Nov. 24. Wilson was replaced with new coach Tre Lamb, who hired Brad Robbins as offensive coordinator.
Under Spurrier’s direction, Tulsa’s offense in 2023 ranked among the top-35 nationally for rushing, red zone offense, third down conversions and passing yards per completion. The Golden Hurricane ranked 67th nationally in total offense that season and 62nd last year.
Steve Spurrier Jr. background
Spurrier has extensive SEC experience and has coached in nearly two dozen bowl games. Before arriving at Tulsa, he was receivers coach at Mississippi State on coach Mike Leach’s staff — and was at one time passing game coordinator. He previously worked with Leach as receivers coach at Washington State.

Additionally, he was receivers coach in the NFL from 2002-03 during his father’s stint with Washington. Other stops came at schools such as Arizona, Oklahoma and Western Kentucky.
Spurrier, 53, also was at one time a graduate assistant for his father at Florida in the 1990s. He played receiver at Duke from 1989-93 and recorded 25 career catches for the Blue Devils.
