Sunday Sweep: Gators finish off a perfect 5-0 week
The No. 15 Florida Gators all but sealed the Sunday sweep during a 37-minute, 13 batter bottom of the fifth. The Gators slugged out seven runs on eight hits including Jud Fabian’s first home run. It was the first time the Fabian brothers — Jud and Deric — each recorded a hit in the same inning. The Gators went on to finish the sweep of Georgia State by a score of 12-1. It finished a perfect 5-0 week after losing the opening series to Liberty.
“I’ve told you guys. One through nine. We’re a really great lineup,” Colby Halter said after the game. “This is what we’re going to expect. It was really good to see.”
Timmy Manning drew the start for the Gators. The sophomore left-hander threw a zero up in the first frame but found trouble with two outs in the second. Dalton Pearson and JoJo Jackson singled to start the inning. Manning struck out the next two before loading the bases with a walk. He lost a curveball, hitting Josh Smith in the foot to force in the first run of the game.
The Gators evened the game in the fifth inning when Kendrick Calilao singled up the middle to score Josh Rivera.
Gators put on a hit parade in the 5th
The fifth inning started strong with Colby Halter collecting his third of four hits on the afternoon with a double to start the frame. Jud Fabian launched his first home run of the season.

The hit parade continued with Sterlin Thompson, Wyatt Langford, and BT Riopelle all singled before the first out was recorded. Freshman Matt Prevesk launched a sacrifice fly to left field for the second out and that’s when the Gators went. to work.
Kendrick Calilao and Deric Fabian each singled home runs and Halter hit his second double of the inning to plate two more. In total Florida scored seven runs on eight hits and sealed the game.
“There’s no doubt about it. Hitting is definitely contagious,” Halter said after the game. “Good to string a couple of knocks together and getting it rolling like that.”
Road Warriors
Florida will play four games on the road this coming week. Tuesday the Gators will travel to Jacksonville to take on the Ospreys. They’re back at home to host FAMU on Wednesday night before taking I-75 South all the way to Coral Gables. The Canes won 10-0 on Sunday to take the series against Harvard. Miami lost on Friday but were able to win the next two to salvage the series.
