GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Todd Golden has expanded his staff with two more assistants, although one of the additions is not new to his staff. Florida’s second-year coach has promoted Taurean Green from his support staff to a coaching position, Gators Online has confirmed.

The NCAA increased staff sizes with an increase of two coaches in men’s and women’s basketball. Golden allocated one of those spots to Green, who officially joined his staff in May 2022 as director of player development. His new title will be along the lines of development assistant.

Green is Golden’s second reported hire in as many days. The other addition to his staff is new assistant coach John Andrzejek, who spent the past four seasons at Washington State. Andrzejek and Golden have worked together twice before, first at Columbia (2012-14) and then San Francisco (2016-17).

Andrzejek and Green join associate head coaches Carlin Hartman and Korey McCray and assistant coach Kevin Hovde on Golden’s coaching staff. His support staff includes director of basketball strategy and analytics Jonathan Safir, strength and conditioning coordinator Victor Lopez, player development assistant Jordan Talley, director of men’s basketball operations Mike Robuck and associate athletics director Dave Werner.

Green played three seasons with the Gators from 2004-07 and was a member of the unforgettable “Oh-Fours” recruiting class that won back-to-back titles at UF in 2006 and 2007. The point guard was a two-time All-SEC honoree and earned MVP of the Midwest Regional in the Gators’ 2007 NCAA Tournament run, averaging 19.0 points in wins vs. Butler and Oregon. Green was also the leading scorer on Florida’s 2006-07 squad with a 13.3 scoring average.

Green finished his collegiate career with 1,174 points and was a 2007 NBA Draft pick by the Portland Trail Blazers. He played two seasons with Portland and the Denver Nuggets before embarking on a decorated overseas career that included league championships in France and Poland and an All-Star honor in Greece.

After retiring in 2021, Green reunited with Donovan in a player development role with the Chicago Bulls franchise. His father, former NBA player Sidney Green, works as a Chicago Bulls team ambassador.

The Gator Great enjoyed being back in the league and working alongside his father and Donovan, but he couldn’t turn down the opportunity to return home.

“It feels great. Everything comes full circle,” Green said last June. “I’m just appreciative Coach Golden giving me an opportunity to be part of the staff, to come back to the University of Florida. It’s a great opportunity with a young, energetic staff that really knows basketball.”
