The Numbers Game: Florida vs. Vanderbilt
GAINESVILLE — Here are some key numbers and notes following the Florida Gators’ 38-14 homecoming win over Vanderbilt on Saturday at The Swamp ….
-Florida held Vanderbilt to 1 of 10 on third down. Here’s how the Florida defense did on third down prior to Saturday: Kentucky 1 of 8, Charlotte 3 of 13, Tennessee 8 of 15, McNeese 2 of 10 and Utah 3 of 13.
-Some numbers of note for Gators running back Montrell Johnson: Saturday, he rushed 18 times for 135 yards for the seventh 100-yard rushing game of his career and fifth at Florida. Additionally, he passed the 2,000-yard career rushing mark.
-Gators quarterback Graham Mertz was 30-of-35 passing for 254 yards and three touchdowns Saturday. He joined Tim Tebow (2010 vs. Cincinnati) as the only Florida QBs to complete 80 percent of their passes or better on 35 attempts or more since 1996. Mertz has completed 70 percent of his passes or better in each of his first six starts as a Gator.
-Redshirt freshman tight end Arlis Boardingham set career highs with seven receptions, 99 receiving yards and two touchdown catches.
-Florida improved to 44-11-2 all time vs. Vanderbilt. The Gators have won 31 of the last 33 meetings. The Commodores once led the series 3-0.
-Vanderbilt has scored a grand total of 14 points in its last three visits to The Swamp. Before Saturday, they ‘Dores had failed to score here in their last two trips to Gainesville (getting outscored by a combined 98-0). Vanderbilt last scored in Gainesville in 2017.

-Florida is now 24-2-1 all time vs. Vanderbilt in Gainesville. Vanderbilt’s lone wins in Gainesville came in the first-ever meeting in 1945 (7-0) and in 2013 (34-17).
-The Gators are now 71-26-2 all-time on homecoming.
-That was coach Billy Napier’s 50th career victory, including his 10th at Florida.
-Florida rushed for 215 yards Saturday. That’s the 10th time in 19 games under Napier the Gators have passed the 200-yard rushing mark. The Gators now have outgunned their opponents in 11 of those games.
-Gators receiver Ricky Pearsall recorded four catches for 34 yards Saturday. This gave him a reception in 34 straight games. That’s the eighth-longest streak in the FBS right now.
-Receiver Khalil Jackson, whose father and grandfather played for Florida, set a career-high with four receptions. They covered 24 yards.
