Jones says: “I think the program’s going up. I feel like Florida is coming up and in the next three-to-four years, Florida can be a contender for an SEC championship. … The culture is amazing. It’s in a college town, so everybody in the community is supporting the Gators. It’s an up-and-coming school. I see a lot of young guys who are talented. By the time I get there, I think Florida’s going to be a really good team because they are up-and-coming in the SEC. … Coach (Billy) Napier is a really laid-back guy and he is very family-oriented. He keeps it real. He obviously wanted me to go to Florida, but he didn’t try to bash other schools. Coach Napier kept it real with me. …

“(Tight ends coach Russ Callaway) is my guy. I’ve met his family. Coach Callaway’s met mine. He’s a great guy, has high-energy and is very intelligent. He’s really funny. I like that he’s real. I went on a visit to watch a spring practice and he acts the same way all of the time. Also, he has an NFL mind. He’s the co-offensive coordinator along with tight ends coach, so he’s obviously seeing how the tight ends get the ball and can help with that.”
Notable: Jones was selected to play in this year’s Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game.

What the Gators are getting in Micah Jones

Scouting report: Here’s what people are saying about Jones …

-“Whether he’s in traffic or wide open in the flat, Jones shows soft hands. He does not look uncomfortable as a receiver. This is not a tight end who is going to take the top off a defense; however, Jones does move the chains and does a good job of knowing where the first-down marker is. He shows the ability to catch through contact and boasts a large catch radius for his quarterback to throw to. This is one of those tight ends who can find holes in a zone defense and do damage.

“I also like Jones’ eagerness to mix it up as a run blocker. He does a good job of providing a pop at the point of attack and is typically relentless when trying to get his opponent to the ground. Also, it’s worth noting Jones is consistent with playing under control. He can continue to improving on driving defenders out of the play, but the technique is in place. It’s just about getting more stronger and that will happen during his time with the Gators.” — Corey Bender of On3.
