GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Following Florida’s national championship celebration in The Swamp for the men’s basketball team, head coach Todd Golden revealed that he and athletic director Scott Stricklin were very close to reaching an agreement that “will keep the Golden’s in Gainesville for quite a while.” That deal is now done.

Golden has signed a six-year deal worth $40.5 million, paying him an average of $6.75M per year and raising his annual salary by $2.65M. This makes him the fourth highest-paid coach in college hoops and marks a massive jump from his salary last season, earning $3.6 million in the first year of his new deal, which ranked No. 34 nationally and No. 11 in the SEC.

In his third year at the helm, Golden led the Gators to their first national title since 2007. He also tied the school record for wins with a 36-4 record, won the SEC Tournament title and produced a first-team All-American in Walter Clayton Jr. for the first time in school history.

“Todd has done an incredible job getting Florida men’s basketball back where it belongs,” Stricklin said. “We believed in his vision, his competitive nature and his modern approach to the game back in 2022, and he has validated that belief in a relatively short time and helped create memories of a lifetime for another generation of Gator fans.”

Florida earned its sixth Final Four trip and third No. 1 seed in school history. Florida’s path to the national championship matched the toughest of all-time for a No. 1 seed, and the Gators were the first team to take down three ranked opponents to win an SEC Tournament.

Florida’s historic championship run saw the Gators win 12 straight games to close the season, including nine top-25 wins, eight of which were against top-12 teams. UF had never previously defeated more than eight top-25 opponents in an entire season.

Another raise for Todd Golden

This is the second extension and raise for Golden in as many years. After the leading the Gators to their most wins (24) since 2016-17 and the SEC Tournament title game for the first time in a decade, Golden’s annual salary was increased by over a million dollars.

The deal bumped Golden’s average salary to $4.1 million per year and extended him through the 2029-30 season. He was set to earn $4.4 million and $4.6 million in the final two years of his deal, respectively.

Golden was hired in March 2022 on a six-year deal worth $18 million after leading San Francisco to its first NCAA Tournament in 24 years. He now has led the Gators to their third title in program history and made himself at home in Gainesville.

“My family and I are grateful to be a part of Gator Nation and for the opportunity to lead this great program three years ago,” Golden said. “As we’ve shown during our time in Gainesville, the University of Florida is an institution that has the resources, support, and people in place to compete and win national championships.

“I am so appreciative of each and every player and staff member who have been critical to the success we’ve experienced here. My family and I look forward to our future here at UF and to the continued success of our men’s basketball program.”
