Todd Golden ‘very close’ to contract extension with Florida Gators

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — After leading the Gators to their first national championship in 18 years, Florida men’s basketball coach Todd Golden is close to reaching a contract extension with the program. Golden revealed Saturday that he’s been in negotiations with UF athletic director Scott Stricklin.
“Florida is a place that you can compete and win national championships, as we just proved. And we love being here,” Golden said after the halftime celebration at the spring game. “Scott and I have been talking a lot. I feel like we’re very close to put something together that will keep the Golden’s in Gainesville for quite a while. So, I think in the next week or two, we’ll get to the finish line on that.”
Todd Golden received a contract extension last year, raising his annual salary by over a million dollars. Golden currently earns an average salary of $4.1 million per year, which was previously extended through the 2029-30 season.
Golden was hired in March 2022 on a six-year deal worth $18 million after leading San Francisco to its first NCAA Tournament in 24 years. He now has led the Gators to their third title in program history and a program-record 36 wins.

“My family and I love being here,” Golden said. “Obviously, it was a big change for us coming from the West Coast and not knowing a lot of people out here, but in three short years we’ve been able to meet a lot of great people and get comfortable in the community.”
