It’s another day of multiple commitments for Billy Napier and the Gators, as 2024 offensive tackle Marcus Mascoll announced for Florida moments ago.

Michai Boireau, a massive defensive tackle from Fairburn (Ga.) Creekside, made a commitment to the SEC school today as well. The Gators are now equipped with 15 commitments from the 2024 class.

With Mascoll, who straps up the pads for Atlanta (Ga.) South Gwinnett, he becomes the program’s third offensive line commit, joining Mike Williams and Germany’s Noel Portnjagin. All three prospects committed over the past seven days, so it’s been a whirlwind for UF fans.

According to On3’s rankings, the 6-foot-4.5, 290-pound Mascoll is the No. 28 offensive tackle in his class. He is also a top-45 prospect in the talent-loaded state of Georgia.

“The two offensive-line system and just coach Napier’s philosophies. He emphasizes development. Coach Sale, coach Stapleton and coach Blackshear, I feel like with that system, I can just develop quicker because there is constant help and constant questions I can ask about plays. I can just work on my technique,” Marcus Mascoll told Gators Online when asked why UF is the choice.

When did the Gators overtake LSU for Marcus Mascoll?

LSU and N.C. State were the other finalists in Mascoll’s recruitment; however, in recent weeks, much of the attention had been centered on the Gators and Tigers.

In fact, even moments after his official visit in Gainesville, Mascoll told GO that LSU still had a very slight lead. The Tigers offered before UF and were leading at the time the Gators offered. This was a classic SEC battle for one of the emerging offensive linemen in the Southeast.

So, what was the turning point in the Peach State native’s recruitment?

“It was mainly that talk with coach Napier, coach Stapleton and coach Sale,” Mascoll said. “They just emphasized that I’m a priority. They talk about me every day and it’s just a blessing coming from them. They believe in me and it’s just genuine.”

It’s more than just football at Florida

Another major appeal was the living situation for the players. Mascoll loves everything the Swamp has to offer and is eager to make it his home away from home.

The three-star prospect plans to sign in December but will not be graduating until next spring.

“It’s just great,” Mascoll said of Gainesville. “The campus is great and the scenery is great. It’s vibrant. I went up there in the spring and got to see the campus a lot with all the students there. It was just a great experience.”

Mascoll could return to Gainesville this week

In addition to the aforementioned schools, Mascoll possesses offers from Maryland, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, UCF and Georgia Southern among others. And now that he is committed and continuing to season up his skill set, you can expect additional programs to come calling as well.

“They like how I play,” said Mascoll. “I play fast, physical and finish off plays. I know I have stuff to work on and they showed me the stuff I have to work on. I believe they can help with that.”

If all goes as planned, the Georgia native will be returning for this week’s Friday Night Lights or for another recruiting event on July 29. Nothing is finalized at this time.
