Top-50 prospect says Gators QB commit DJ Lagway is ace recruiter and has 'leader mentality'
What does Jordan Ross, the 4-star edge from Birmingham (Ala.) Vestavia Hills, think of Florida Gators quarterback commit DJ Lagway?
“DJ is like the most respectable young man to pretty much everyone out of anyone I’ve ever met in my life,” Ross told Gators Online. “Great guy. Really trying to get everyone to go to the Swamp. He told me, ‘This is the place.’ He said, ‘You gotta come back again.’ He’s doing a great job trying to recruit. He’s very humble and doesn’t say, ‘I’m a 5-star.’ He doesn’t brag about it. He just chills. If you never met him you wouldn’t know he’s a 5-star because he doesn’t talk about it.”
And, Ross added, Lagway has “a leader mentality.”
Lagway is Florida’s highest-ranked commitment. And Ross is a priority target. He’s the No. 33 recruit in the country and No. 4 edge according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
They both officially visited the Gators last weekend.
That was after meeting for the first time last week at the On3 NIL Elite Series presented by Mizuno in Nashville, Tenn.
According to Ross, even though Lagway has made it clear he wants Ross to join him at Florida he isn’t pushy about it.
“It’s more like a friend,” Ross said. “But as a player, DJ gets a better view of it, instead of the coaches. (With UF), he’s like, ‘We’ve got a great class but we’ve got to keep the defense up and we’d be great.”
Having seen Lagway communicate up close with Ross and with other recruits, Ross is impressed.
“I think he’s definitely having an impact,” Ross said. “He hangs out with pretty much everyone. He tried to make it feel like the Swamp.“
Jordan Ross gives DJ Lagway a strong grade as a recruiter
Ross said Lagway’s recruiting skills are “like a B-plus … or an A” and added other recruits see similar traits in Lagway.

“They think the same thing that I do,” he said. “They think he’s a great player and a great recruiter.”
Before Ross’ visit to Gainesville, the Gators were “third or fourth” to him. But the official visit apparently gave them a major boost.
“They’re kind of at the top now,” he said. “They’re up there among the top. I can’t say there’s a No. 1 because I haven’t gotten to (officially visit) the others yet. So I can’t really tell.”
Ross, who plans to officially visit Georgia, Tennessee, Texas and others, said he’s likely to return to Gainesville in November for the Florida State game.
