The Gators got back over the .500 mark in SEC play Saturday with their 61-59 win at Mississippi State.
It marked Florida’s first win in Starkville since 2017, having lost its previous two visits. The Bulldogs rallied from a 16-point deficit to tie it up in the second half, but UF escaped with its first win of the season in a one-possession game.
“We won, that’s all that matters,” Colin Castleton said. “We didn’t have a great second half. They came out with a great run and they’re a good team, well coached with a lot of energy and fire and they care, but we hit timely shots and had good defensive possessions and came out with the last stop.”
Castleton led the team with 13 points, scoring in double figures for sixth consecutive game and the 16th time this season. He was one of five Gators to hit a 3-pointer, along with Alex Fudge, Riley Kugel, Kowacie Reeves and Will Richard, who was 4-for-5 from downtown.
Saturday also marked a return to Starkville for UF associate head coach Korey McCray, who coached at Mississippi State for the previous seven years.

“Lot of great memories here,” McCray said. “Everybody was asking me all day if it felt weird to be here, and it didn’t, until I sat on the opposing bench. And that’s when I was like, ‘Man, it feels weird to be sitting on this side.’ Guys played well, so I’m proud of our guys, and we have to build on this.”
