Trevor Etienne named SEC Freshman of the Week
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Gators freshman running back Trevor Etienne was named the Southeastern Conference freshman of the week for his performance against South Carolina.
Etienne is the first Florida player to be named freshman of the week since Mohamound Diabate in 2019. Etienne broke off an 85-yard touchdown in the first quarter of Florida’s 38-6 win over South Carolina last Saturday and finished with a career-high 100 yards on the ground. The Jennings, Louisiana native has notched 567 rushing yards in his first collegiate season, the second-most by a freshman this season in the SEC, and the 13th-most overall in the conference.
“Trevor, obviously, has gotten more experience early in the year. You can see he has physical ability. But the impressive thing about him is, he is humble. He is very smart. He’s got really good character, and he is a good teammate,” Billy Napier said. “He’s a leader, believe it or not. That guy’s a leader. Amongst the players, he will call a guy out. He’s that kind of guy. I think it’s one thing when they’re good players. It’s another thing when good players are smart, mature and you’ve got leadership traits. He does right now.”
Etienne is tied for second on the team with 89 carries. He has rushed for 567 yards and five touchdowns. Etienne’s rushing yards and touches are second among freshmen in the SEC, trailing only Ole Miss’ Quinshon Judkins.

Etienne’s career-long carry
Late in the third quarter, backed up near their own end zone, Napier called a play with an option for quarterback Anthony Richardson.
“That play, I had two options, either pitch the ball on a quick out or just hand it off to the running back,” Richardson said. “The way they were rotating I didn’t like the pitch so I just trusted number 7 and he took off and scored.”
