Trey Bonham is reportedly entering the transfer portal after just one season with Todd Golden and the Florida Gators.

The news was first reported by All Gators on FN’s Brandon Carroll.

Bonham transferred to Florida from the Virginia Military Institute following the 2021-22 season. Now, he will look for his third home in three seasons with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

In his lone season with the Gators, he played in 30 games with 13 starts. He averaged 5.6 points on 36.9% from the field, 1.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 13.4 minutes per game.

Much of his success on the court with UF was in the first half of the season.

His 11-point, seven-rebound performance that sparked a 19-point comeback win at Florida State in November increased his minutes throughout November and December.

In his first start, Bonham posted his Florida career high in points (23) in a losing effort to Xavier in the Phil Knight Invitational.

Bonham matched that performance by scoring 23 points again against Florida A&M. In that game, he tied Matt Walsh’s school record by hitting seven three-point shots to help the Gators cruise to a win over the Rattlers.

At VMI, he started 36 of the 53 games he played in. He made a big step forward in his sophomore season where he averaged 13.6 points, 4.8 assists and four rebounds.

Bonham adds to the list of departures

With Bonham’s departure, the only point guard left on the Florida roster is Denzel Aberdeen. Florida’s two primary ball handlers in Myreon Jones and Kyle Lofton have no eligibility left and will look to compete at the next level.

Kowacie Reeves, Jason Jitoboh, Niels Lane and CJ Felder have also entered the transfer portal. Colin Castleton has also used all of his eligibility, making it eight total departures from this year’s UF roster.
