Two Gators projected as first-round picks in 2026 NFL Draft

The Florida Gators are getting some big-time recognition in early 2026 NFL Draft talk. In a new mock draft from Pro Football Focus’ Dalton Wasserman, two Florida players, center Jake Slaughter and EDGE Tyreak Sapp, are projected to be selected in the first round.
Slaughter, the Gators’ All-American center, is projected to be selected 20th overall by the Houton Texans. The Ocala native is the leader on the Florida Gators’ offensive line and one of the most dependable players on the team.
After earning All-SEC and All-American honors in 2024, Slaughter decided to return for his senior season instead of entering the NFL early. His leadership and strong play have made a big difference for the Gators’ offense. In the NFL, a smart and tough center like Slaughter is a huge asset.
As for Sapp, a Fort Lauderdale native, he’s projected to go 29th overall to the Kansas City Chiefs. This comes after a breakout season in 2024 in which he recorded 46 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, seven sacks and two forced fumbles. He earned one of the highest defensive grades in the country from PFF.
Having two players mocked in the first round shows how much Florida’s football program has grown in recent years. It also shows that the Gators are doing a great job developing players who are ready to succeed at the next level, especially a former 3-star prospect like Slaughter. This kind of success carries over to recruiting too, as prospects want to play for teams that get players drafted early.

While the 2026 NFL Draft is still far away, it’s clear that Slaughter and Sapp have already made a strong impression. If they continue to perform at a high level, they could both hear their names called early on draft night. A lot will be on the line for the 2025 season.
