The Florida Gators basketball team has been picked to finish sixth in the Southeastern Conference via a league media vote, the conference announced Monday. Meanwhile, two Gators — Walter Clayton Jr. and Alex Condon — earned preseason All-SEC honors.

Florida placed sixth in the SEC standings last season with 11-7 league record and followed that up with a run to the SEC Tournament championship game for the first time in a full decade. The Gators also earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament, but lost to Colorado in the first round.

This season’s squad returns a good bit of talent from that team. Monday, the Gators landed at No. 21 in the Associated Press Top 25 preseason rankings. (Full rankings HERE)

Clayton, a senior guard, was a first-team preseason All-SEC selection. He led the Gators in scoring last season at 17.6 points per game. Clayton finished with 633 points, which is the fifth-highest total in program history. This season, he’ll play point guard after being a shooting guard as a junior.

Condon, a sophomore forward/center, was a third-team pick. He’s coming off a season in which he averaged 7.7 points and 6.6 rebounds a game to earn SEC All-Freshman honors. Per Florida sports information, “his rebounding average and his 45 blocked shots led all SEC freshmen in 2023-24.”
