Just less than a week ago, Florida made a splash during the Early Signing Period by signing Devin Moore.

A former Notre Dame commit, Moore heavily considered the Fighting Irish during the home stretch as well; however, an eye-opening in-home visit and official visit weekend with the Gators ultimately pushed Billy Napier’s program over the top.

In the video below, the four-star defensive back spoke with On3’s Chad Simmons about his decision to stay in the Sunshine State, thoughts on Napier, playing for cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond and more.

Billy Napier on recruiting Moore

“He was one of the first players that we evaluated,” Napier stated on how he recruited Moore to Florida. “And man, what an impressive young man. We all know he’s a big corner that has length, he’s physical, he can play man-to-man coverage, he’s certainly a good tackler.

“I think the thing that’s most impressive about Devin is he’s extremely driven. He’s a hard worker, he’s got an incredible attitude [and] he’s extremely bright. He’s just a first-class young man and [has] an incredible family. I think when you meet his mom, his dad — I got a chance to meet his brother this weekend. These people, they have priorities. They’ve raised their family a certain way and their very impressive.

“[Co-defensive coordinator] Patrick Toney obviously was the first to go in there and I can remember him calling me after the home visit and just raving about Devin. And then the school visit during the day. This guy’s got a presence about him — just seeing him interact in that school with his teachers, the administrators and the students. This is the type of player — and more importantly the type of person that we want on our team.”

Inside the Film Room

“A coordinated, smooth mover in coverage,” stated On3’s Director of Scouting and Rankings, Charles Power. “Plays cornerback for his high school and could line up there or at safety. Looks like a bigger wide receiver playing defensive back. Shows instincts in coverage, closing quickly as a cover-down defender and turning to make plays on the ball downfield. Returned a few kicks for touchdowns as a senior. Also played wide receiver sparingly. Looks to have a high upside.”
