The offseason grind has officially started for the Florida football team. Foundation, aka phase one, began on Tuesday with director of strength and conditioning Mark Hocke.
UF second-year coach Billy Napier has an eight-phase football calendar — modeled after Nick Saban’s plan at Alabama — that he calls “The Journey.”
With 23 mid-year enrollees on campus for phase one of the offseason program, Napier reflected on his first year at UF and what the future holds for 2023.
“I do think we’ve made significant progress and I think we’ve got the organization up and running. For the most part, all of our systems are in place,” Napier said on the Finebaum show. “So, I’m confident. We’ve put together a really great group of people and I’m really looking forward to kind of starting over here as we start Phase 1 in January.

“Excited about this core group of veterans that we’ve got coming back and then we’ve got about 20 players that will be joining our team at mid-year, which is a huge number. So, a lot of ups and downs, but I think those things are to be expected in Year 1. Got a lot of work to do, and I think that’s why we were hired. And I’m excited about what I see and what we’re capable of here at the University of Florida.”
