Watch: Jac Caglianone smacks first Triple-A homer

It took Florida Gators great Jac Caglianone just three games to smack his first homer since getting promoted to Triple-A Omaha earlier this week.

Thursday night, Caglione sent a 3-0 90.3 mile-an-hour fastball from Dak Hudson 410 feet over the wall in right-center at Salt Lake City. The ball had an exit velocity of 113.6 mph. It was Caglianone’s first hit of the game and fourth with Omaha in 12 at-bats. The Storm Chasers are affiliated with the Kansas City Royals, who drafted Caglione with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.

Caglione was called up to Triple-A on Sunday after tearing it up this season for the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals. For that team, he was hitting .322/.394/.553 with nine homers and 17 extra-base hits.

Caglione was promoted after playing only 38 games at Double-A. 

Interestingly, Caglione played right field Thursday. He has largely been at first base thus far in the minors, but the Royals have a greater need in the outfield and probably would like to get Caglione’s bat to Kansas City in the near future.

Caglianone, 22, actually got off to a slow start last year after being drafted. He batted just .241 in 29 games for High-A Quad Cities and then .236 in 21 games in the Arizona Fall League. He was ranked No. 29 on the preseason top 100 MLB prospects list by ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel.

Caglianone belted 68 home runs during his final two seasons with the Gators while playing first base and pitching. That included 35 homers as a junior in 2024, which trailed only the 37 from Georgia’s Charlie Condon. Condon who was drafted No. 3 overall by Colorado. He currently is in High-A.
