Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson has received yet another top-10 projection for the 2023 NFL Draft.
The latest comes from ESPN’s Jordan Reid, who released his updated mock draft Thursday and had him going 10th overall to the New York Giants.
Here is what Reid wrote about Richardson:
GM Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll helped develop Josh Allen in Buffalo, and they could do the same with Anthony Richardson, a toolsy yet inexperienced passer. Evaluators will be watching Richardson closer than any other player this year, now that he is Florida’s unquestioned QB1 after rotating series in multiple games last season. With a 6-foot-4, 232-pound frame and strong arm, he has the traits to be a very high draft pick, but the sample size is just too small (66 passes and 58 rushing attempts) and the consistency isn’t quite there yet. The Giants did not pick up Daniel Jones’ fifth-year option, so they will likely be in the QB market next offseason.
Reid also appeared Thursday on SEC Live and was asked how Richardson is being projected by various draft analysts as a top-10 pick based on such a small sample size.
Here was Reid’s reasoning for his pick:
“Well, what really intrigues me about Anthony Richardson is that third quarter against LSU,” he said. “When you’re talking about a player that’s being drafted strictly off of traits, I think he’s the most physically gifted player at the position in this class. When he rotated with Emory Jones last year, he really didn’t get an opportunity to get in rhythm. He was only able to play two or three series at a time. I think you’re really going to start to see him put things together now being the unquestioned QB1 in Billy Napier’s offense. I think he’s going to have a big year this year.”
