Will Griffin, 4-star QB, commits to Florida Gators
The Florida Gators don’t yet have a 2025 quarterback committed, but they now have one on board for 2026. And it’s a good one.
A really good one.
Will Griffin, 4-star prospect from Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit, gave his pledge to Florida during an unofficial visit to the school on Saturday. The rising junior is commitment No. 1 for the Gators in the class of 2026.
Griffin, listed at 6-foot-2.5, 225 pounds, is the No. 8 quarterback and No. 104 recruit nationally in the On3 Industry Rankings.
Griffin had a strong sophomore season
Offers came in early for Griffin and he more than lived up to the hype with a strong 2023 season (67.6 completion percentage, 3,404 yards, 34 touchdowns). Griffin’s offer list is about as impressive as they come and also included the likes of Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon and Ohio State.
But Griffin visited the Gators multiple times during the recruiting process — and grew up a Florida fan.
On a visit to Gainesville earlier this year, the Gators had Griffin shadow freshman quarterback DJ Lagway, who enrolled at the school in January.
“He’s awesome,” Griffin told Gators Online. “He’s such a fun guy to be around — he’s always trying to include you in things,” Griffin said. “For it being his first time showing someone around, I’d say he did pretty darn good. We talked ball, but we also talked about the recruiting process. He had a lot of insight into what it’s going to start to turn into. It was a great day with him.”

On that visit — and many others — Griffin and his family spent time with Gators coach Billy Napier and offensive analyst Ryan O’Hara, who works with the Gators’ quarterbacks. According to Griffin, he has developed a strong bond with both men. Another Florida assistant, co-offensive coordinator Russ Callaway, visited Griffin’s school in late April and attended a Jesuit practice, where he was seen taking video of Griffin throwing.
Around that same time, word began to spread that Florida had emerged as the team to beat for Griffin. On3’s Steve Wiltfong put in an On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine pick for Griffin to the Gators on May 3.
He has family ties to the University of Florida
Griffin seemed destined in some ways to be a Gator. His father attended college in Gainesville.
“I grew up going to a whole bunch of games as a Gator,” Griffin told Gators Online in 2023. “I was a huge fan. Pretty much his whole side of the family went there. It’s great to have that hospitality there — and the offer.”
Asked during that same interview if he’s envisioned himself playing for Florida, Griffin responded: “Yes, especially in the stands. I can see myself throwing those touchdowns and being apart of the Gators.”
Now, that dream has a strong chance of becoming a reality.
