15-0! Florida State passes road test with 12-8 win over rival Gators

Florida State and its bats keep passing tests with flying colors. After a 14-0 start to the season in which the Seminoles never scored fewer than seven runs, head coach Link Jarrett‘s lineup turned in perhaps its most impressive performance to date as FSU beat the rival Florida Gators 12-8 in Gainesville.
Florida State ran the bases well, used timely hitting and scored two runs on an infield error to push out to a 4-0 lead in the game’s first three innings. Junior James Tibbs hit his eighth home run of the season — a no-doubt, three-run blast to right field — in the fourth inning to push the FSU lead to 7-0.
The Gators (10-6) responded with their largest frame of the night, a five-run fourth inning which saw them chase Seminole starter Andrew Armstrong. After inheriting two baserunners, redshirt freshman Joe Charles allowed a run and recorded two outs before giving way to junior Carson Dorsey.
Dorsey allowed a grand-slam to Florida’s Cade Kurland, then a single to the next batter, before settling the game down by retiring eight straight Gator batters.
Florida State tacked on three runs in the sixth and two runs in the eighth to take a 12-5 lead and put the game out of reach.

Along with Tibbs, sophomore Alex Lodise drove in a team-high three runs, including a stinging two-run double to the centerfield wall in the sixth inning. Sophomore Drew Faurot and redshirt senior Daniel Cantu led the team with three hits apiece.
The win was Florida State’s first in Gainesville since a 2-0 victory on March 10, 2020. The Seminoles open ACC play on Friday when they host Notre Dame at Dick Howser Stadium.
