15 Florida State Seminoles honored on 2022 All-ACC Football Team; 3 make first-team

Led by first-team selections Jared Verse, Jammie Robinson and Dillan Gibbons, the Florida State Seminoles had 15 players selected for the 2022 All-ACC Football team, which was released on Monday.

Florida State had four players on the second team, one more on the third team and then seven honorable-mention selections in voting done by 51 conference media members and all 14 head coaches.

Starting quarterback Jordan Travis was named second-team All-ACC (North Carolina’s Drake Maye was the first-team selection) along with wide receiver Johnny Wilson, running back Trey Benson and offensive tackle Robert Scott.

Verse, the highly coveted transfer from Albany, finished with 14.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks — both were far and away the highest numbers on the team — despite dealing with an injury for part of the season. Verse earned the most votes of any defensive players in the conference.

Robinson, who transferred from South Carolina before the 2021 season, earns his second straight first-team honor. The safety led the Seminoles with 86 tackles, including four tackles for loss. He also had five quarterback hits, four pass break-ups and an interception.

Gibbons was an Honorable Mention All-ACC selection last season, but he made first-team this year after helping pave the way for one of the best offenses in the United States. The Seminoles finished the season by eclipsing the 200-yard rushing mark seven straight games — the longest streak for an FSU team since 1987.

As for the Seminoles’ starting QB, Travis had one of the best single seasons in FSU history. The redshirt junior completed 63 percent of his passes for 2,796 yards, 22 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He also added 367 yards rushing and seven more scores, while also catching a touchdown as well in the win over Syracuse.

Travis became just the fourth quarterback in school history to surpass 3,000 total yards and account for 30 touchdowns in a season. The other three — Charlie Ward, Chris Weinke and Jameis Winston — all won Hesimans.

Benson, another second-team honoree, was named ACC Running Back of the Week three times in the month of November alone and finished the regular season with 965 yards rushing on 141 attempts — an average of 6.8 yards per carry. He also rushed for nine touchdowns, including three in the 45-38 win over Florida last Friday night.

Charlotte transfer D’Mitri Emmanuel was named to the third-team All-ACC offensive line.

Honorable mentions for the Seminoles were Mycah Pittman as a specialist, center Maurice Smith, linebacker Tatum Bethune, running back Treshaun Ward, cornerback Renardo Green and defensive tackles Fabien Lovett and Robert Cooper.

The 15 honorees are the most for Florida State since 2015. And of the 15 that were selected from head coach Mike Norvell’s team, 11 were transfers.
