3-Star OL Mike Ionata Commits to FSU during Legacy Weekend

FSU’s Legacy Weekend got started with a bang Saturday as a legacy recruit, three-star offensive lineman Mike Ionata, committed to the Seminoles.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, the 6-foot-6, 295-pound Ionata is a top-75 recruit nationally at his position. He said the Seminoles are recruiting him as an offensive tackle.
“The whole staff has done a great job of making a connection with me and they make me feel like I am a part of the Florida state family,” Ionata told Warchant.
Ionata’s father, Joey Ionata, played offensive tackle at Florida State from 1984 to 1988. His uncle John Ionata also played offensive tackle at Florida State from 1982 to 1985.
The younger Ionata has been a regular at Florida State during the recruiting process. This weekend was his second time visiting in 2025, as he was on campus for a Junior Day in January.

“He was pretty happy,” Ionata said of his father’s reaction to the commitment. “I know that he wants me to play at the best place for me. But, of course, if it ended up being here, of course he’ll be a little more happy about that.
The Clearwater product is Florida State’s eight commitment of the 2026 class.
Even though he has committed to the Seminoles, like most recruits, Ionata is still taking visits to other programs. He said he likely will take trips to Alabama and North Carolina, and he will be back for an official visit to Florida State on June 6. He also plans to take an official visit to see the Crimson Tide.
