5-star defensive lineman LJ McCray takes one last visit to Florida State
After helping his Daytona Beach Mainland team win a state championship on Thursday, five-star Florida Gators commit LJ McCray stayed in Tallahassee that night so he could stop by Florida State on Friday before going to Auburn for another visit.
This was likely his last time seeing head coach Mike Norvell and the Seminoles’ staff face-to-face before pen hits paper on Dec. 20.

“Most of the time we talk, it’s not really about football,” the standout defensive lineman said. “It’s not really about coming to Florida State. It’s like regular conversation — like he’s been recruiting me for the last two years, so it’s all about things we talked about and things like that. It’s not really too much about, ‘Come to Florida State’ type of conversations.”
The five-star prospect also talked about his commitment to the Florida Gators and where it stands.
“I committed for a reason,” he said. “It kind of took me a minute because I wanted to make sure that that’s where I wanted to be.”
