Just a few days after being named to the All-ACC Freshman Team, FSU third baseman Cam Smith announced on social media Friday afternoon that he is returning to the Seminoles in 2023-24.

Smith, who came to Florida State as a highly touted prospect last summer, finished second on the team this season with 12 home runs while hitting .258. He led the Seminoles with five triples, while ranking second in runs scored (39) and walks (21). He ranked third on the FSU lineup in hits (54) and RBIs (36).

The Lake Worth product’s 12 home runs were the most for a Florida State freshman since 2004.

Smith made his decision public Friday while also announcing that he has signed on to be an ambassador with Rising Spear, an NIL collective that supports FSU student-athletes.

Smith started 51 of 54 games at third base as a freshman. Coming out of high school, he was rated the No. 1 shortstop in Florida and the No. 53 overall prospect in the country by Perfect Game.

The Seminoles, who just completed a 23-31 season under first-year head coach Link Jarrett, are expected to see a major roster overhaul this offseason.

But Smith would be one nice building block for Jarrett’s second season, and a handful of other veterans have posted on social media that they plan to return in 2023-24 as well.

Outfielder first baseman James Tibbs, who led FSU in batting average (.338), home runs (17), RBIs (43) and walks (48), posted earlier this week on Twitter that he looked forward to seeing the Seminoles’ fans again in February.

Pitcher Conner Whittaker, who emerged as a starter this season and ranked third on the team with a 4.33 ERA, posted a similar message as well.
