Another Commitment! FSU beats out rival Miami for South Florida DB Ricky Knight
The Florida State football staff, which has been looking to beef up its 2024 defensive recruiting class, added to the future of its secondary Saturday by securing a commitment from three-star cornerback Ricky Knight.
He streamed his commitment on Instagram Live.
“Coach [Mike] Norvell made it clear I was the guy he wanted,” Knight said during his announcement. “They have shown me time and time again I should be there. I trust what Coach Norvell is putting together. That’s where my home is.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Knight is listed as the No. 48 defensive back in the country and the No. 64 recruit in Florida.
Knight’s pledge came two hours after FSU landed a commitment from four-star defensive end DD Holmes.
The Palm Beach Gardens standout’s recruitment came down to two in-state rivals, Florida State and Miami. In the later stages, FSU regained the lead for Knight after Miami seemed to take a slight edge.
One aspect that weighed in Florida State’s favor with the 6-foot-1 defensive back was the defensive system the Seminoles play.
“Because I’m a press-man corner, that’s really what they play a lot,” Knight said previously. “They love to play man a lot, so it kind of fits what I want to do.”

It also helped the Seminoles’ chances that they were his first offer.
“I mean honestly, I still keep that in the back of my head,” Knight said. “They were the first school to ever give me an opportunity, and I’ll always be grateful for that.”
The athletic defensive back said he can’t wait to show the Seminoles what he can do.
“They are getting a hard worker and a very athletic guy,” Knight said Saturday. “I’m a very genuine guy. Someone that loves the program and wants to win.”
