Even though his blood alcohol content was reportedly below the Florida legal limit of 0.08, Florida State cornerback Charles Lester was charged with driving under the influence last week because he is 18 years old and the blood alcohol limit for those under 21 is 0.02.

That and other details of Lester’s Feb. 17 arrest were revealed in a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report, which was obtained Tuesday by Warchant through a public records request.

According to the report, Lester was pulled over for driving 61 mph in a 40 mph zone. The arresting officer stated that he, “detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the vehicle” and that Lester had, “bloodshot glassy eyes and a slight slur in his speech.”

When asked if he had been drinking, the Florida State redshirt freshman said he had consumed “one cup of wine.”

Lester then agreed to participate in field sobriety exercises, and here is a portion of what the officer described in his report:

“Walk and Turn: The defendant was unable to stay in the starting position but did not start until he was told to begin. While completing the exercise the defendant used his arms for balance, completed 9 steps down, completed an improper turn, and 8 steps on the way back. The defendant missed multiple steps on the way down and back and stepped off the line once times (sic).

“One Leg Stand: The defendant chose to raise his right foot. During the exercise the defendant would raise his arms to balance, not keep his legs straight and kept his foot less than 6” off the ground and did not count as instructed. Through my investigation I determined the defendant was intoxicated to the point that his normal faculties were impaired, and the defendant was arrested without further incident.”

Lester then reportedly consented to a breath test and blew a 0.074 on the first examination and a 0.067 on the second about 20 minutes later.

The Florida State defensive back was charged with DUI, speeding and driving with a suspended license. According to the report, Lester’s license was suspended on 12/23/2025 (sic) because he completed an online traffic safety course after a previous ticket but did not send the completion certificate in to the court.

Lester told the officer he did not know that his license had been suspended.
