For the second consecutive year, the Florida State baseball team has produced at least one first-round Major League Baseball Draft pick.

Left-handed ace Jamie Arnold was selected Sunday evening in the first round by the A’s at No. 11 overall.

The Seminoles, who had two players drafted in the first round last year — sluggers James Tibbs and Cam Smith — now will have to wait to see if shortstop Alex Lodise will go in the first round as well. Most pre-draft projections had Lodise going either late in the first or at some point in the second round.

Arnold’s status as a first-round pick was never up for debate. The only question was where exactly he would end up.

Earlier this year, several analysts predicted that the Florida State junior would be the No. 1 pick overall. But a few uncharacteristically tough outings and a slight drop in his strikeout numbers led to Arnold’s draft stock sliding slightly.

After a brilliant sophomore season, in which he struck out 159 batters in 105.2 innings with just 26 walks, Arnold pitched 84.2 innings this past season and struck out 119 with 27 walks.

Arnold’s ERA stayed exactly the same at 2.98, but he finished 8-2 this year after going 11-3 as a sophomore.

He is the first Florida State pitcher selected in the first round since Luke Weaver went to the Cardinals with the 27th pick in the 2014 Draft. At No. 11, Arnold’s value is projected at $5.99 million by MLB.com.

Several other Florida State players and signees could be selected in the 20-round MLB Draft as well.

Junior outfielder Max Williams is listed as the No. 81 prospect in the draft by MLB.com. Pitcher Cam Leiter, who has missed a year-plus with an injury, is listed at No. 114.

Junior second baseman Drew Faurot checks in as the No. 158 prospect overall, and junior pitcher Joey Volini is listed at No. 216.

There are 20 rounds in the 2025 MLB Draft, with the first three rounds behind held Sunday night.
