It has been another busy week of comings and goings for Link Jarrett and the Florida State baseball program. And this most recent going might just be the biggest one yet.
Late Thursday afternoon, longtime Director of Baseball Operations Chip Baker announced he is retiring after 39 years with the FSU program.
Baker spent 18 years as an assistant coach on legendary head coach Mike Martin’s staff, and he moved into a front-office role two decades ago.
“With a smile on my face, I am officially announcing my retirement from Florida State University,” Baker posted on social media Thursday afternoon. “It has been a great honor to be part of Florida State Baseball for the past 39 years as an assistant coach and director of baseball operations. I want to thank the coaches, players, staff, administrators and the greatest fans anywhere for a great run. I’ll see you all at the ballpark next spring.”
During the 2022 season, Baker celebrated his 2,000th career victory in college baseball, including previous stops at Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech.
Shortly after Baker’s announcement, there was an outpouring of love on social media from former FSU players and staff members. Here are a few:

According to D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers, Jarrett is bringing in Pitt assistant coach Ty Megahee to fill the position.
Megahee has spent the past five years as an assistant coach at Pitt under former FSU assistant coach and player Mike Bell. Before that, he spent three years at Western Kentucky, and he previously worked at Mercer, Auburn and Monmouth.
Here’s MeGahee’s bio from the Pitt website.
Florida State pitchers entering transfer portal
FSU pitchers Carson Montgomery and Brandon Walker entered the transfer portal this week.
Montgomery is a former top prospect who struggled to find success and consistency under two different coaching staffs. Walker is a Tallahassee native who mostly saw action in mop-up duty.
