DB Omarion Cooper returning to FSU; Seminoles also trending for LB transfer
Things are heating back up for Florida State in the transfer portal.
After a quiet few weeks, the Seminoles on Tuesday landed a familiar face through the portal as defensive back Omarion ‘Duke’ Cooper announced he was returning to FSU. Cooper spent last year at Colorado after playing the 2021 and ’22 seasons with the Seminoles.
Cooper announced his decision Tuesday on social media.
The former three-star recruit from Lehigh Acres, Fla., went back into the transfer portal late last month after his one year in Boulder. As a starting cornerback with the Buffaloes in 2023, he recorded 37 tackles and broke up five passes. He recorded 30 tackles and three interceptions during his two seasons at Florida State.
Cooper started seven of the 20 games he played in at Florida State. Following his first year on campus, he was honored as the Devaughn Darling Defensive Freshman of the Year.
After beginning his career as a cornerback with FSU, the Seminoles gave Cooper a look at safety during the spring of 2023. It is not known how he will be used in his return to the Seminoles.

Florida State also appears to be trending toward adding former Auburn linebacker Cam Riley through the transfer portal. On3’s Pete Nakos put in an RPM prediction on Tuesday for the Seminoles to land Riley, who racked up over 100 tackles during his time at Auburn.
Riley originally committed to N.C. State but backed out of that commitment in recent weeks.
