ETSU QB transfer Jaylen King commits to Florida State

The Florida State football team lost a backup quarterback to the transfer portal a couple weeks ago, and on Saturday evening, the Seminoles landed his replacement.
East Tennessee State QB transfer Jaylen King announced Saturday evening that he will signing with Florida State.
The commitment comes off the Folkson, Ga., product’s official visit to Florida State on Saturday. He originally started his career at Gardner-Webb before moving on to ETSU.
This past season at ETSU, King played in 10 games, throwing for 1536 yards, nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also rushed for 422 yards and five touchdowns on 105 attempts.
Committing to Florida State started to come to fruition just a few days before the 6-foot-3, 210 pound junior stepped on campus. And things moved fairly quickly once the Seminoles showed interest.
“Like two days before the portal closed, one of my coaches called me saying that this opportunity could possibly be, and I jumped on it,” King said. “I got excited because this is where I always wanted to be coming out of high school. And for it to come full circle and be an opportunity now.”
King did have some familiarity with the staff, as he camped at Florida State multiple times in high school before ultimately going to Gardner-Webb.

He likely will replace QB Trever Jackson, who recently left Florida State for Arkansas. But King also hopes to compete for a starting job down the line.
“Just the situation they have — they got a guy with one year left and I played previously my freshman and sophomore year,” King said. “And I was looking for a place to redshirt. And I was going to redshirt at East Tennessee State, but opportunity came here. … It just all lined up.”
As for the system, King feels he has already been in one similar to Gus Malzahn’s and should be able to pick up the new terminology easily.
“It’s all the same stuff, just different terminology,” King said. “So I mean I’m pretty familiar with the things that they do, because I’ve done it in the past. So I feel like it should be really easy to come in and learn the system.”
King will arrive on campus as soon as possible after the spring semester at ETSU ends.
