After serving as Florida State’s primary long snapper for most of the past two seasons, James Rosenberry Jr. announced Tuesday afternoon he has been placed on scholarship for his final season as a Seminole in 2023.

Rosenberry started his career at Maryland and was a two-year starter for the Terrapins. He later transferred to FSU in 2021 and was reunited with special teams coordinator John Papuchis, who previously coached him at the Big Ten school.

An Ohio native, Rosenberry came to FSU as a walk-on and immediately won the starting job on the punt team. He then added snapping on field goals and extra points early in the 2021 season.

Along with being an exceptional special-teams player, Rosenberry also is a very good student who was named a Seminole Scholar and earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team.

By Warchant’s unofficial count, the addition of Rosenberry puts Florida State at 83 scholarships filled for the 2023 season. If that number is correct, that means the Seminoles could add two more players through the transfer portal — with the most likely positions being safety, linebacker or defensive end.

In a post on social media Tuesday afternoon, Rosenberry thanked FSU head coach Mike Norvell and Papuchis and said he was “very excited” about the honor.

“Time to finish strong in my last season,” he posted on Twitter. “Go Noles!”
