Buster Posey Day at Dick Howser Stadium could not have gone much better for the Florida State baseball team.

After Posey was honored with a pregame jersey retirement ceremony, the No. 21 Seminoles went out and made relatively quick work of ACC opponent Pitt, 5-3.

With the win, Florida State clinched the series victory and will go for the sweep on Sunday.

The Seminoles jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to consecutive RBI hits from Jaime Ferrer, Jordan Carrion and Cam Smith.

From there, Florida State ace left-hander Wyatt Crowell cruised through a career-high six shutout innings. He established a new career high with 10 strikeouts, while walking four and giving up three hits.

Pitt scratched across a couple of runs in the seventh and another in the ninth, but left-handed relievers Jamie Arnold and Andrew Armstrong combined to seal the deal out of the bullpen.

Armstong recorded a strikeout with the bases loaded to end the game.

The victory improves Florida State’s record to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the ACC, while Pitt falls to 7-8 and 0-2.

FSU was led offensively by Carrion and Smith with two hits apiece.

Florida State and Pitt will play Game 3 on Sunday at 1 p.m.
