Link Jarrett and the Florida State baseball team landed another important transfer commitment Sunday night as former UCF starting pitcher Cameron Leiter announced he will continue his career with the Seminoles.

Leiter led the Knights this past season with 80 strikeouts, and he posted a 3-2 record with a 4.92 ERA. He started 14 of the 15 games he appeared in.

A 6-foot, 4-inch right-hander, Leiter seemed to get stronger as the year went on. He recorded 11 strikeouts in consecutive weekend starts at Tulane (May 7) and Cincinnati (May 13).

Leither’s 80 strikeouts came in just 56.2 innings. The only Florida State pitcher with more than 80 strikeouts this season was sophomore Jackson Baumeister, who recorded 95 Ks in 69.0 innings.

Leiter comes from a family with a rich baseball tradition. His uncle Al Leiter was a Major League Baseball pitcher from 1987 through 2005 with six different clubs. Uncle Mark Leiter pitched for 11 years in the major leagues, cousin Mark Leiter Jr. pitches for the Chicago Cubs, and cousin Jack Leiter starred at Vanderbilt and was the No. 2 pick in the 2021 MLB Draft.

The younger Leiter is the third former UCF player to announce his plans to transfer to FSU. The Seminoles earlier landed shortstop Drew Faurot, who set a Knights freshman record with 15 home runs this past season, and fellow freshman pitcher Jacob Marlowe (3-6, 5.64 ERA).
