Florida State Baseball pounds out 15 hits in 11-2 win at JU
The first three batters in the lineup aren’t always going to be the top hitters, but they just might have been on Tuesday night for the Florida State baseball team.
Freshmen DeAmez Ross and Cam Smith and sophomore James Tibbs, who hit 1-2-3 in the Seminoles’ batting order, delivered eight of Florida State’s 15 hits in an 11-2 victory against host Jacksonville University.
Ross, the leadoff hitter, got things going with three hits, a walk and two runs scored in his first college road game. Smith went 3-for-6 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored; he blasted his second career home run and his second double. And Tibbs went 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
Florida State also got strong performances at the plate from shortstop Jordan Carrion and outfielder Jordan Williams. Carrion went 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs, and Williams went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs; Williams’ two-run homer in the third inning gave the Seminoles an early 5-2 lead.

Freshman right-hander Ben Barrett got the start for the Seminoles on the mound, but it wasn’t a long outing. He gave up a two-run home run in the first inning and was replaced by Wake Forest transfer Brennen Oxford in the third.
Oxford pitched three scoreless innings, and relievers David Barrett, Andrew Armstrong and Ryan Denison combined to keep the Dolphins scoreless for the final four frames.
Oxford, who struck out six in his three innings, was credited with the win on the mound.
Florida State now has two days to prepare for a big early test this weekend at TCU. The Horned Frogs are 2-1 and ranked No. 8 by D1Baseball and No. 10 by Baseball America.
