Florida State cruises in Saturday doubleheader, sweeps Boston College

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 5 Florida State baseball team secured a series win with a 14-0 shutout win in seven innings over Boston College on Saturday afternoon and finished off the sweep winning the back half of the doubleheader 6-2.
Junior left-handed starter Jamie Arnold had a strong return to the mound as the offense scored multiple runs in five of its six innings in the first game of the afternoon. Freshman first baseman Myles Bailey homered for the third consecutive game and the sixth time this season and junior right fielder Gage Harrelson hit his second home run in 2025 and fourth of his career.
The Seminoles scored 14 runs on 16 hits with no errors. The Eagles were held to just two hits and committed one error. Eleven of Florida State’s 14 runs came with two outs.
Harrelson and junior shortstop Alex Lodise both had four hits and Harrelson had four RBI. Lodise drove in three runs, as did Bailey. Junior catcher Jaxson West drove in two runs and had a pair of base hits. Harrelson’s day extended his career-long hit streak to 18 consecutive games, as he has hit safely every game in 2025.
On the mound, Arnold did not allow a run in 4.2 innings. He struck out eight, walked two and gave up one hit. He earned the win to improve to 3-0 on the season while throwing 79 pitches. Sophomore right-hander Chris Knier pitched the final 2.1 innings to complete the shutout. He also held BC to one hit with three strikeouts and no walks.
Florida State took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on Bailey’s two-out, three-run home run. The Seminoles added another three in the second, as Lodise ripped a bases-clearing double down the left-field line. The one-out hit scored three and made it 6-0.
Meanwhile, Arnold struck out the first four batters he faced and left one runner on in the second. He loaded the bases with no outs in the third, but got a lineout double play and a groundout to end the inning and strand two in scoring position.

The FSU offense answered with another two runs in the third to extend the lead to 8-0. Harrelson singled up the middle to score both runners, and it was another two-out hit that did the damage. West made it 10-0 in the fourth with a two-RBI double, again with two outs.
In game two of the doubleheader, Florida State hurler Wes Mendes did not allow an earned run or base on balls in seven innings of work while fanning eight.
Florida State wasted little time in keeping up its offensive onslaught as Max Williams unleashed a 457′ home run following an Alex Lodise triple in the first inning.
Williams later tacked on a solo HR and had three RBIs in a 3-for-4 performance.
Mendes overpowered the BC bats in facing the minimum over four innings with the lone run from the Eagles scoring on throwing error by freshman Hunter Carns.
Florida State returns to action on Tuesday when the Seminoles host Mercer on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
