Jared Verse was a bit of an unknown nationally coming into the 2022 season, but that certainly will not be the case in 2023.

After deciding to return to Florida State for another year, Verse was named Friday to ESPN’s Way Too Early 2023 All-America Team. He joins Georgia standout Mykel Williams as the starting defensive ends.

Verse was a hot commodity on the transfer market after he posted 10.5 sacks at FCS program Albany in 2021. He then lived up to the hype last fall for Florida State, racking up 17 tackles for loss and nine sacks despite missing some time due to injuries.

Verse also led all Florida State defensive linemen and ranked seventh on the team with 48 tackles. He was named first-team All-ACC at the conclusion of the season.

There was speculation that Verse might jump to the NFL after one season in Tallahassee. But despite being listed as a potential first-round pick on several mock drafts, the powerful pass-rusher decided to come back for one more season with Florida State.

Verse won’t be the only Seminole entering this coming season with a great deal of hype. As a team, Florida State has already been listed as a top-five or top-10 squad in several early preseason rankings.

Along with Verse, the Seminoles return quarterback Jordan Travis, running back Trey Benson, receiver Johnny Wilson, defensive tackle Fabien Lovett and a slew of other returning starters.
