One of the prized additions in Florida State’s 2024 transfer class is leaving the Seminoles after a year that fell short of expectations for him individually and the team overall.

Marvin Jones Jr., who was a five-star recruit in high school, transferred to FSU last December after spending his first two seasons at Georgia. When he arrived, Florida State coach Mike Norvell described him as a major impact player in the Seminoles’ plans.

“Marvin is a dynamic athlete with proven production at the collegiate level,” Norvell said at the time. “He brings experience and a tremendous amount of play-making ability to our program, and he is just scratching the surface of where he can go.”

The surface wasn’t scratched much more during Jones’ one season in Tallahassee. He finished the year with 25 tackles and four sacks, but he had just one sack in the final two months of the Seminoles’ 2-10 season.

When he signed, Florida State fans were hoping he might follow in the huge steps of his father, an all-time Seminole legend.

Marvin Jones Sr. was a three-time All-America linebacker for Florida State from 1990 to 1992 and is one of the most decorated players in the history of the program. Not only did he win the Butkus Award and the Lombardi Award in 1992, but he also finished fourth in the Heisman voting — one of the highest finishes ever for a defensive player.

He was the fourth overall pick of the New York Jets in the 1993 NFL Draft and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. His No. 55 jersey is retired at Florida State.

Here is an updated list of the FSU players who have officially entered the transfer portal.
