Florida State lands big-time FAU pitcher transfer Trey Beard

The Florida State baseball team is losing arguably the top pitcher in the country in Jamie Arnold. So the Seminoles went out and got one of the best arms in the transfer portal to try to help fill that void.
Florida Atlantic University starting pitcher Trey Beard announced on Friday that he would be joining the Seminoles for the 2026 season.
Beard, a 6-foot-2 left-hander, went 7-1 for the Owls in 2025. He had an ERA of 3.14 and recorded 118 strikeouts in 86.1 innings pitched. He also had a batting-average-against of .199, which was one of the best numbers in the nation for a starting pitcher.
His WHIP (walks plus hits per innings pitched) of 1.08 was also an elite number in 2025.
Beard allowed only five homers on the season and just 18 extra-base hits in his 16 appearances (15 starts) on his way to being named All-AAC first team.
Beard’s breakout sophomore season came on the heels of an impressive freshman campaign in 2024 in which he was named to the all-conference freshman team after making 15 starts for the Owls. He was ranked as the No. 28 left-handed pitcher in the country by Perfect Game coming out of Dunedin High School.

And as a sophomore in 2025, he more than lived up to that billing.
Beard had 12 outings in which he pitched at least five innings and six starts with double-digit strikeouts, including a career-high 12 in five innings against Fordham early in the season.
He only gave up more than four runs once in 2025 and that was five runs to UTSA, which advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals this season. He also pitched seven innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out eight in a win over NCAA Tournament team East Carolina.
Beard is expected to be an immediate candidate for the weekend rotation and perhaps could be the Seminoles’ Friday night starter in 2026.
