While Florida State spent much of its time Friday and Saturday celebrating the past during Legacy Weekend, the Seminoles also landed some commitments for the future.

Four-star safety Mekhi Williams, a rising junior from the Tampa area who is part of the 2027 recruiting class, announced Wednesday he plans to become a Seminole at the next level.

The 6-foot-2 defensive back was very productive as a sophomore, registering 35 tackles and six interceptions in 10 games, according to MaxPreps

“The coaches here, they’re different,” Williams said of his commitment to Florida State. “They show me love. They treat me like it’s home.”

Williams said he loved watching the Seminoles’ “aggressive” defense under new coordinator Tony White during Saturday’s practice. He also had high praise for new safeties coach Evan Cooper.

Williams is Florida State’s second commitment for the Class of 2027, joining safety Jaylen Scott of Alabama.

Earlier Saturday, the Seminoles landed a commitment from 2026 offensive lineman Mike Ionata.
