Alex Atkins and Florida State remain scalding hot in the transfer portal as the Seminoles got word Monday night that yet another high-profile trench monster will make his way to Tallahassee.

Offensive lineman Jeremiah Byers — formerly of UTEP — announced via social media that he will play for the Seminoles in 2023. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 331 pounds, Byers will join Florida State as a redshirt junior.

The Austin, Texas, native chose the Seminoles over offers from Oregon, Penn State, Oklahoma and Ohio State, among others.

Byers is the second offensive line transfer for Florida State in as many days. The Seminoles landed a pledge from Colorado lineman Casey Roddick on Sunday night.

Byers is listed as the seventh-best player overall and second-best offensive tackle in the 2023 On3 Transfer Portal rankings. According to On3’s team rankings, Florida State’s transfer haul is up to third-best nationally.

Pro Football Focus had Byers with an offensive grade of 79.4 this season. He had a pass-blocking grade of 83.2 and a run-blocking grade of 79.3, while starting all 13 games at right tackle.

Byers started every game for each of the past two seasons with the Miners.

The Seminoles continue a torrid pace in the portal as Atkins and head coach Mike Norvell work to replace three starters along the offensive line. Guards Dillan Gibbons and D’Mitri Emmanuel and tackle Jazston Turnetine have each exhausted their eligibility. All three came to Florida State as transfers.
