Florida State men get dominated from start to finish in 72-46 loss to Clemson

There was no miracle comeback this time. After pulling off a stunning come-from-behind win at Wake Forest on Wednesday night, the Florida State men’s basketball team found itself down big again on Saturday afternoon against visiting Clemson.
This time, though, the Seminoles stayed down. Way down.
They got dominated from the opening tip as the No. 23 Tigers rolled to a 72-46 victory at the Tucker Center.
Clemson is now 21-5 overall and 13-2 in the ACC. The Seminoles fall to 15-10 and 6-8.
Florida State trailed by double-digits for the final 32 minutes of the game as its offense failed to establish anything at all. The Seminoles scored just seven points in the first nine minutes and then had another six-minute stretch later in the half when they didn’t score a single point.
Until a five-point burst in the final minute, Florida State had 14 points in the first half. Even with Justin Thomas hitting a corner 3-pointer before the buzzer, the Seminoles still had just 19 points at the break and trailed the visitors by 17.
It didn’t get any better in the second half.
Clemson’s lead never dipped below 15 in the final 20 minutes and got as high as 27. Florida State trailed by at least 20 for the final 9:45.

The Tigers didn’t even shoot that well from 3-point range, going 8-of-25 from beyond the arc. And their leading scorer, Chase Hunter, didn’t hit a single shot from the floor and scored just three points. It didn’t matter. The Tigers still won in a laugher.
Florida State struggled shooting from start to finish. The Seminoles connected on only 2 of 15 shots from 3-point range and 8 of 19 from the free-throw line. They were also below 50 percent on layups (8 of 17). They had 14 turnovers and just five assists as a team.
Taylor Bol Bowen and Malique Ewin, who were both instrumental in the Seminoles fighting back from 18 points down against Wake Forest earlier in the week, were complete non-factors on Saturday. Bol Bowen was 1-of-10 from the floor and had two points and five turnovers. Ewin had six points (just two until the final three minutes).
Jamir Watkins led the Seminoles with 14 points, but he was 1-of-5 from the free-throw line.
Florida State plays again on Wednesday night at home vs. Miami.
